Comprehensive OB/GYN Guide Result of Five-Year Research and Writing Effort

ZONARE, a leading developer of next generation ultrasound technology, announced its senior manager of Education, Jim Baun, BS, RDMS, RVT, FSDMS, has completed and published his sixth ultrasound textbook. The new book, OB/GYN Sonography – An Illustrated Review, Second Edition, is a comprehensive guide, which took Baun five years to research, update and write. It is published by Davies Publishing Company, located in Pasadena, California, and features numerous ultrasound images including those taken on a ZONARE system with ZONE Sonography® Technology (ZST).

“We are privileged to have such a highly respected ultrasound author and educator as part of our team,” said Glen McLaughlin, PhD, founder and president of ZONARE. “Jim has been an instrumental part of teaching the value of ZST around the world. Somehow, in his spare time he has managed to research and write a 500-page textbook on OB/GYN ultrasound. I’m not sure how he did it.”

The book is approved by the Society of Diagnostic Medical Sonographers (SDMS) for 15 continuing medical education credits upon the completion of the exam at the end of review. It is expected to be used by numerous accredited sonography training programs including the Gurnick Academy of Medical Arts in the Silicon Valley.

“Jim often teaches at Gurnick and is highly sought after for his in depth knowledge of ultrasound,” said Claudia van Zamory, ultrasound program director for Gurnick. “We will be using this new edition for our main textbook in an upcoming OB/GYN course. Of course, we will want the author to spend some time with the students in order for them to hear first hand experiences and observations from this pioneer in ultrasound.”

The book features more than 1,000 anatomic illustrations and diagnostic scans plus almost 50 tables containing normal fetal measurements and other clinical reference data. It is designed to be practical, manageable and reader friendly text, which has been peer-reviewed by 19 nationally known ultrasound experts.

“I wrote the book with several different audiences in mind,” said Baun. “Certainly, the first being students, but also to cross-train sonographers, practicing sonographers and interpreting physicians. Hopefully, this book provides a convenient and inexpensive means to learn this important information while earning CME credit.”

Baun is a highly experienced clinical and academic sonographer who has been practicing in addition to educating since the early days of the profession. He has served on faculties and advisory councils of numerous sonography programs, written several other text books, chapters and published articles, while lecturing extensively around the world.
